The Summer Recall : Chapter 2 - Maame

Latifah walked up to the car as soon as I approached her cousin's house. She was definitely taller than me, slim thick ( according to Kuukua she recently lost a lot of weight) big chested and even though she had a big tee-shirt on,  those bad boys stuck out like a sore thumb. Her hair was in twist braids and pulled back into a ponytail. And she had on a  pair of jeans with puma sneakers. She was definitely a natural beauty and didn't need any makeup to enhance her features. But, she definitely seemed like a down-home girl, very beautiful but not aware of her beauty.

Latifah opened the door and hopped into the front seat next to me. She turned round to me and said "Hi, Maame it is so nice to meet you". I quickly exchanged a greeting, revved up the car and headed towards Kuuk's place. " Thanks for inviting me to join you two on this journey," I said to break the silence after we exchanged pleasantries. There was a shyness about Latifah, she seemed super friendly but not one to initiate conversation. If you didn't notice you would think she was unfriendly but I did pick on it that it was shyness and not snobbery. "No problem at all, my girl in VA has the house to herself and wanted to make sure she wasn't alone so she asked me to invite friends. I'm glad Kuuks had friends I could invite since I don't live here." I noticed she had a British accent. I have always found it to be so cool. "Well I'm glad the invitation was extended and you also saved me from having to spend it with my boyfriend and his crew this long weekend" I said, quickly regretting blurting out that statement. I didn't know Tifa and it wasn't right for me to admit something like that especially since I didn't know who she was and whether she would spread my business. I turned to her and said, "I'm sorry I didn't mean that, I guess what I was trying to say is that I'm glad I get to spend the long weekend with girls instead of a bunch of guys". I was hoping Tee will understand that I didn't mean to put my man on blast. " Girl don't worry I totally understand. I've started talking to this guy, and to be honest, I'm not too keen on hanging out with him either this long weekend. He invited me to spend July 4th with him and his family and I quickly came up with an excuse. Why would I want to miss out on this trip to hang out in dry old Atlanta when everyone I know and love will be in the DMV this weekend?. Besides I'm trying to see what this weekend has to offer. I might meet a fit guy and chuck that other guy to the side and have some mad fun with my new man" She giggled.  I joined her in the giggle. I stopped feeling guilty about my last statement and carried on chatting to Tifa about Ade and our relationship. I know we just met but she is so easy to talk to and non-judgmental I just felt at ease talking to her about it.

In no time we had reached Kuukua's house. We drove down her street honking the horn to let her know we were approaching. The excitement was rising up in me. I knew we had a bit of a drive but I couldn't wait to hit the road so we could get to DMV.  Tee had mentioned her friend we were staying with was planning a barbecue this evening to welcome us to the DMV. According to Tee, she had invited a host of friends and a bunch of hot guys. I knew this trip was going to be epic and I couldn't wait for us to start the journey. I honked a few more times to rush Kuukua out of her house. Knowing her I'm sure she is still trying to gather her stuff.  She poked her head through the screen door. "Hold up hold up I'm just trying to get my stuff together" She shouted. I pressed on the horn even longer just to get under her skin. I noticed her neighbour peeked through the window to find out what the ruckus was about. Tifa yelled out to Kuuks. " Yo chick, you better hurry your ass up we got a bunch of dudes waiting on us in the  DMV and a girl is trying to get her one".  Kuukua came rushing out the door with her bags in hand and opened the trunk to drop her bags. "Did I hear you say dudes are waiting on us? Chick you should have said that when you came, my ass would have been on the stoop waiting for you. Well what are you standing here for Maame let's go we can't let a good dick go to waste'' Kuukua said.

I started the engine and pulled out of Kuukua's driveway. I turned on the music and  Joe Budden's song 'Pump it Up' was playing on the radio. What a fitting song to get us pumped up for this road trip.  As we headed to the I-85 I just knew this was going to be a summer for the books.
